LMIHC K-4 ELEMENTARY FAQS FOR 2018/19

LOWER MERION ICE HOCKEY CLUB

Elementary Team

FAQs

What is the Lower Merion Ice Hockey Club Elementary Team?

We are a co-ed ice hockey progam for grades K-4 open to anyone in who lives in Lower Merion or Narberth (or who attends private schools in Lower Merion or Narberth).  We support players who have no experience up to those who have been playing for a few years.   We have teams for younger kids, less experienced kids and kids who play a lot.  The rules of USA hockey, which we follow, do not allow contact until kids turn 14.

Do I need any experience?

No.  LMIHC is a community hockey program designed for participation, to grow the game and for fun and competition.  We will teach your daughter/son to skate and play hockey.

How long is the season?

Our season starts mid-September and goes through mid-March.   Generally, the kids are on the ice 2x per week, mostly on the weekend for an hour at a time.

Where are practices and games?

We practice most Saturday afternoons at the Springfield Ice Rink (400 West Sproul Rd, next to the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, PA - 20 minutes from Ardmore).  Practices are about an hour and will occur between 4:15 PM and 6:30 PM (depending on age).  Our games typically occur on Saturdays, Sundays or Monday evenings and will occur at Ice Works in Aston, PA (about 25 minutes from Ardmore).  You will be notified of your exact practice slot after evaluations.

What gear does my child need?

Your child will need full equipment in order to take the ice for the first practice.  Items needed can be found here: http://newtohockey.com/hockey-equipment-buying-guide-for-kids/.  You can buy used items at Play It Again Sports in Berwyn or get new items at Hockey Giant (Norristown), Mike's Hockey Gear (Willow Grove) or Total Hockey (Exton).

How much does it cost?

Cost for the entire season is $800, plus the cost of equipment (ranging between $300 and $500 depending on new or used equipment) and uniform (about $140).  The tuition works out to about $20 per time on the ice.

What is the process to register?

1. Join USA Hockey and obtain a registration number: https://m.usahockeyregistration.com

2. Register for Lower Merion Ice Hockey Elementary School team: Registration is best accomplished from a computer (not phone). There are 2 options for payment, and the chance to further support the club with a donation at the time of registration (much needed!). On the LMIHC site (www.lowermerionihc.com) click the ORANGE Register Now link, choose payment plan.

3. Request or confirm your player's jersey number with the team manager.

Who is Coaching?

We are in the process of selecting coaches for next year.  The following gives you an idea of what our coaches are like:

Kadir Erkmen served as the Head Coach of the Lower Merion Bulldogs Elementary White Team in 2017/18.  Kadir served as an assistant coach for White Team before that.  In addition, he has coached with the Hanover (New Hampshire) Hockey Association, Haverford Hawks, and Valley Forge Minutemen club teams.  His aim is to produce a safe and fun environment for the development of our youth hockey players.  Kadir was joined by assistant coach Dan Flood.  Dan also served as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs, and has coached with the Haverford Hawks and Philadelphia Little Flyers.  Both Kadir and Dan were a huge part of the success of last year’s White Team, guiding them to the 2017-18 DSHL championship.   They also won the league the year before.

Andy Gavrin served as the Head Coach of the Lower Merion Bulldogs Mite Team.  Andy built a solid foundation with the Mite program last season and puts a heavy empasis on fun and growing a love for the game.

How do I purchase a uniform?

If your player needs a new jersey or is new to the club, please contact the team manager to request/confirm a jersey number.  Jersey numbers are assigned based on availability in addition to your child's preference.

Rocky Putter, former owner of the Hockey Shed, will be handling jerseys for our club.  He will be bringing sample jerseys for players to try on at the Springfield Hockey Rink early in the season.  If you are unable to make that time but still need to order new uniforms, please email Rocky directly at .   The cost for 2 jerseys and 2 pairs of socks is $138.00 this year.  ($55.00 per shirt and $14.00 per sox).  He will accept payment in the form of check or cash.

Do you use Team Snap?

Yes.  Once registered and once we have the game schedule, you will receive an email inviting you to join the app.  Players are expected to mark their attendance for every practice and game.

What if I have other questions?

Additional questions, please email the former Elementary team managers Virginia Davis or Megan Fisher .

LMIHC MIDDLE SCHOOL BULLDOGS WIN 2017/18 CUP

LMIHC Middle School Bulldogs Win 2017/18 Ice Line Developmental National Hockey League Crown.

In a very tightly contested game, the LMIHC Bulldogs won the championship in a 6 round shootout against Boyertown Red.  The Bulldogs clawed their way back from a 2-0 deficit and forced OT.  Goals were scored by Dean Carvalho and Parker Hoppy.  Goalie Justin Mackey came up with some timely and clutch goaltending in the shootout.  The winning goal came fromt he stick of Parker Hoppy who pulled a sleek deke on Boyertown's goalie.   Congrats to all the Bulldogs and their coaches.

LMIHC SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

2016/17 Lower Merion Ice Hockey Club

Dear Ice Hockey Enthusiast:

We are currently seeking Lower Merion Ice Hockey Club sponsorships to offset some of the costs associated with providing a successful and enjoyable ice hockey season.  Your sponsorship would help cover the cost of ice time and league fee expenses. Your assistance will make it possible for our players to develop, train and participate in the Lower Merion Ice Hockey Club programs starting as elementary level players and progressing through to our high school programs. We greatly appreciate your consideration.

We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit ice hockey club supported entirely by volunteers and players’ families.  Registration fees cover all expenses related to team operations which include ice costs, league fees and coach related expenses. The most significant of our expenses are the ice costs and league fees.

Over the years, we have been able to provide each team with sufficient amount of ice time. Without support from the community, we will either need to increase the registration fees for some of the teams or reduce the amount of ice time.

Our ultimate goal is to have the opportunity to keep the number of middle school practice slots, bring in a goalie coach or power skating instructor, hold team social events and participate in extra events. This is why we ask you for your support.

We have four options for your donation.  In exchange for your level of generosity, your Company or Organization will receive the following:

  • Level 1 - $195 - Special recognition on our Club’s website at www.lowermerionihc.com
  • Level 2 - $245 - The name of your Company or Organization will be included on a ½ page in Club’s yearly Ad Book as well as recognized on the Club website
  • Level 2 - $295 - The name of your Company or Organization will be included on a full-page in Club’s yearly Ad Book as well as recognized on the Club website
  • Level 4 - $215 - The name of your Company or Organization will be listed on a page in Club’s yearly Ad Book along with other organizations as well as recognized on the Club website

If you are able to donate towards our efforts, we will promptly forward you a thank you letter with our tax identification number for your records.

On behalf of the Club, I thank you very much for your support and consideration of this sponsorship opportunity. Please do not hesitate to contact the Larry Kagan, Club Treasurer and Registrar or me if you have any questions about the sponsorship program.

Sincerely,

Carole D. Santilli, CPA

Lower Merion Ice Hockey Club President
